There's a startup in Russia called Mostik. The name means "bridge," and it's a good name, because that's exactly what these people built.
Here's the problem they're solving. When you want two AI models to work together, the normal way is to have one model write out its answer as text, then feed that text into the next model. It works, but it's slow and expensive. Every word has to be generated, then read back, then turned into something the second model can use.
Mostik figured out how to skip the words entirely.
Instead of passing text between models, they pass the mathematical values inside the models themselves. The weights. The numbers that decide how a prompt becomes an output. It's a direct line between one model's brain and another's, with no text in the middle.
It's been called machine telepathy. That's not far off.
What this actually means is that a smaller, cheaper model can borrow the capabilities of a much larger one. You feed the big model's understanding straight into the little one, and the little one suddenly performs way above its weight class. Mostik demonstrated it by bridging two Chinese open-weight models, and the resulting hybrid cost a fraction of the big one while landing exactly halfway between the two in performance.
A Mostik model is currently sitting at the top of ARC-AGI-3, which is one of the harder benchmarks out there for measuring whether an AI can actually reason.
The CEO, Sasha Malysheva, explained it over coffee with an analogy I like. Ask a handful of random people to guess the weight of a pig, and average their answers. You'll usually get closer to the truth than you would asking a single expert. Combining models works the same way. The catch has always been that combining them is slow and expensive. Mostik's bridge removes that catch.
Why this matters for the rest of us: if this takes off, open-weight models get a lot more valuable. Right now the frontier labs like Anthropic and OpenAI win partly because their closed models are just bigger and better. If a small open model can rent the reasoning of a giant one through a bridge like this, the whole "bigger is better" argument gets weaker. The little guys can compete.
I don't know if Mostik is the company that wins this. Startups come and go. But the idea is the kind of thing that sticks around once it's out. Models talking to each other without words, sharing what they know directly, is a genuinely new trick. And it's the sort of thing that could quietly change how a lot of this gets built.
